Orlando
Serving the Children of the World

Kiwanis Club Orlando
Serving Central Florida children since 1921

Kiwanis Club Orlando is a community service organization where professionals,
retirees, students, and civic volunteers all come together with one common goal:
serving the needs of children in Central Florida.

Club members meet weekly to network, share a few laughs, and learn more
about the community. Each year, the club organizes a wide-range of volunteer
projects, including an annual Christmas party for underprivileged children, a track
meet for area elementary school students, and service projects at Orlando Day
Nursery.  The Orlando Day Nursery is the club's oldest community service project,
dating back to the 1920s.  The daycare facility provides child care options for
working moms with limited resources.

The club meets in downtown Orlando at the Orlando Day Nursery, 626 Lake Dot
Circle, Orlando. Meetings are on Friday afternoons from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. and
include lunch. Take a few moments to learn more about the club and how you
can get involved in serving the needs of children in Central Florida.

Kiwanis Club Orlando Supports Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year
Kiwanis Club Orlando member Bill McCollum,
FL Attorney General, was on hand to hear TJ
speak prior to the state competition.

TJ address the audience at Celebrate the

& Girls Club of Central Florida.

Kiwanis Club Orlando congratulates Tonjankia “TJ” Smith on winning the local and
state Boys & Girls Club - Youth of the Year competition.  TJ is a member of the East
Altamonte Branch of Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida.

The Youth of the Year competition has special meaning for Kiwanis Club Orlando.
A few years ago, the Kiwanis Club Orlando Foundation endowed the program in
perpetuity, providing the financial support necessary to carry out the competition
now – and in the future.  This year, the club also participated in early stages of the
competition.  As part of a regularly scheduled club meeting, branch nominees gave
a personal speech.  Club members ranked each nominee (a very difficult job) and
provided constructive feedback.

Prior to competing at the state level, TJ  returned to address the club as the
Central Florida winner - and for a little more practice.  In addition to her prepared
speech, club members participated in an unscripted, super-sized panel interview,
much like the upcoming state competition.  A short time later, TJ won the state
Youth of the Year competition.
TJ is graduating high school with a 4.23 grade point
average and will attend college at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School
of Business this fall.  We wish Tonjanika continued success in life, academics and
her future career!

Kiwanis Club Orlando Golf "Tournament"

No Kiwanis Club Orlando golf tournament
is complete without a whole lot of rules,
odd exceptions, and (of course) the 19th
hole.

The team of Rick Ahl, Rick Sickles, Greg
Renton, and Tom Porter are the 2010
tournament champs!

Long-time club member Steve Johnson
organized the tournament, which took
an eight-year hiatus before returning to
the club's social calendar.
